Solo Practice Law Office
Oakdale, Minnesota

I am Gregory P. Seamon, Esq., and I have been engaged in the private practice of law since 1985. I am licensed in the State of Minnesota and Wisconsin, and am a Qualified Family Mediator (Rule 114).

My primary areas of practice include family law, estate planning and probate, and personal bankruptcy assistance. Over the past 30 years I have assisted hundreds of individual clients and families in the litigation or mediation of their family legal disputes.

In my early years of practice I was primarily a family litigator, advocating for individual clients in divorce court. I argued cases in the District Courts of the Twin Cities metro area and Circuit Courts of Western Wisconsin, and before the Court of Appeals in each state. These cases were important to the development of my understanding of client needs and motivations, but also made me aware of the excessive expense, delays and occasional injustice of the family law court proceedings. I am still actively litigating cases where settlement cannot be achieved through reasonable negotiation, but I litigate only if the parties are truly unable to cooperate to resolve their case.

Understanding that over 90 percent of divorce or family law cases will end in some form of settlement, it became clear that my practice needed to re-focus on assisting clients in settling their cases instead of fighting for clients to expand their litigation arguments. The focus of my practice is now assisting families through a cooperative mediation process where I serve as a Qualified Family Mediator to work toward immediate settlement of their divorce or other family law disputes. Mediation is much less expensive than litigation, typically results in a much swifter resolution of cases, and has been proven to be less combative. Most importantly, mediation produces a much better outcome for the family, by allowing each party to participate in the process of creating a settlement agreement, to voice their personal concerns and preferences to reach a more acceptable outcome.

In addition to my family law practice, I have an expanding estate planning and probate practice. I assist clients regularly in the preparation of Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney and Health Care Directives to protect their families financial and property interests as well as expressing and carrying out their individual health care plans.

I have assisted clients in the opening and completion of probate proceedings, and provided legal representation in establishing conservatorships and guardianships for vulnerable adults and elderly family members.

Finally, I have also practiced in the area of personal Bankruptcy in the Federal Courts of Minnesota and Wisconsin.

My office is conveniently located between St. Paul and Hudson at the intersection of I-94 and Inwood Avenue, in the Lake Elmo Bank Building in Oakdale, Minnesota.

The office offers affordable hourly rates and retainers to begin legal service. All major credit cards are accepted. Payment Plans are also available.
